CounterCurrent (April 14-19, 2020) is a free festival of performance, installation, and ideas. Presented by the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, CounterCurrent includes audio and visual installations, live performances, talks, and participatory events by artists from around the world.

Verona burns under the summer heat, fueled by the incendiary hatred between two families. Blind hate results in outbursts of deadly violence. The Prince decrees: if a Montague or Capulet again disrupts the peace, death will be the punishment. Against this violent world, Shakespeare sets “Romeo & Juliet,” a miraculous story of love that heals a community through terrible sacrifice and redemptive forgiveness.
