Campus Safety welcomes Nick Ackles on board as the new campus safety systems manager for the University of Houston.

On Jan. 3, Ackles officially joined Campus Safety under the direction of Assistant Vice President/Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Safety Malcolm Davis.

Ackles began working at the University of Houston in 2002. Between 2002 and 2017, he worked his way up the career ladder within Technology Services and Support until taking his current position within Campus Safety.

Although this was a different department and a new title, Ackles was very familiar with most of its responsibilities before the transfer occurred. During the last four years, while he worked for Technology Services and Support, he managed the technical support and maintenance for the University’s surveillance video network. He often collaborated with David Sarkozi in designing new system installations for cameras and intrusion alarms systems while providing configuration services for newly installed Code Blue telephones.

Sarkozi and Ackles also spent considerable time assessing the systems’ upgrade needs and in planning for the future of security systems at the University.

Ackles realizes there is a lot to be done in this new position, especially in the area of future development.

“I’m assuming a larger role in security systems designs and in representing business owner needs as well as end users. I’m looking forward to this opportunity,” he said.

Anyone who would like to discuss new camera installations or have other security needs can reach Ackles at 832-842-4644.
