
Ryan M. Lance is senior vice president, Exploration & Production - International, for ConocoPhillips.
Lance began his career with ARCO in 1984. He held a number of engineering and operations positions in Alaska before transferring in 1989 to ARCO's Bakersfield, Calif. operations. Lance returned to Alaska in 1994 as exploration engineering manager. From 1996 to 1998, Lance became planning manager for Vastar Resources in Houston. He was then appointed vice president of the Western North Slope for ARCO Alaska, Inc. Lance returned to Houston in 2001 as the general manager of the Lower 48 and Canada for Phillips Petroleum.
With the merger of ConocoPhillips in 2002, Lance became vice president, Lower 48, then president, Asia Pacific, for exploration and production in 2003. In June 2005, he became president, downstream's strategy, integration and specialty businesses. ln April 2006, Lance was named senior vice president, technology and major projects, and in February 2007, was named senior vice president, technology. Before being named to his current position in May 2009, he was president, Exploration and Production - Asia, Africa, Middle East and Russian/Caspian.
Lance serves as president of the board of trustees for Spindletop lnternational, is an advisory board member of the Montana Tech Foundation and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Lance earned a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from Montana
Tech in Butte in 1984.
