The objective of the organizing committee is to organize a workshop to foster international collaboration between the US and Morocco in the area of future smart cities, specifically research needs in sensors and wireless networking and computing that will enable smart cities. The proposed workshop will address the following objectives:

  1. Produce a research agenda in sensors and wireless networks that addresses issues needed to effectively implement smart cities. This would include exploring new designs, application development strategies, heterogeneous systems interfacing, ontologies and hardware-software interaction.
  2. Foster collaboration between US and Moroccan scientists and engineers. The resulting interactions would be mutually beneficial, since participants from the two countries would possess complementary expertise in Cyber Physical Systems (U.S.) and renewable energy implementation and agricultural applications (U.S. and Morocco). Funded joint research proposal(s) for extended joint studies are expected to emerge. In fact the PI is already jointly funded from IRESEN and CNRST, funding agencies in Morocco, in collaboration with Moroccan researchers.
  3. Induce educational progress to match new technology developments through (a) Participation of US and Moroccan faculty, and (b) Suggestions for changes to existing education curricula, through brainstorming sessions.
