The UH/UTHealth Nursing Dual Degree Program is the result of a partnership between the UH College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences (CLASS) and Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth. It is designed to award eligible students two Bachelor’s degrees consisting of 150 hours of coursework in five years:  the first three years are spent on UH coursework for the first Bachelor’s degree that will prepare you for nursing school, and then, during the fourth year, the transition is made to completing coursework for this first degree while also beginning a second-degree Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Cizik School of Nursing for the remaining two years. 

It is important to note that this program has a number of important requirements.  It is geared towards high-performing UH Honors College students ready for a full course-load of at least 30 credit hours of UH coursework per academic year (typically 15 hours each for Fall and Spring semesters). The minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA requirement translates to an average somewhere between a B+ and A- for all coursework, so it is important to honestly consider academic readiness for a rigorous program such as this – or if other paths to a nursing degree are ultimately more suitable (See the link to Frequently Asked Questions for more about these other pathways.). Lastly, as this program is a partnership between Cizik School of Nursing and CLASS, all students in the Dual Degree must also pursue a major in CLASS.

To join this program, interested students must schedule an appointment to first verify their eligibility and awareness of all program requirements before their progress will be officially tracked. These appointments may be scheduled with program advisor Dr. Aaron Reynolds.
