The program lasts for four weeks (Monday through Friday). Each day the participants take part in three physical activity sessions, one nutrition education session and one counseling session. Parents, siblings and other relatives participate in a two-hour weekly session designed to help them support the children’s nutrition, exercise regimen and self-esteem.

Each year, BOUNCE organizes fun runs and walks to promote physical activity in the Houston community and to raise funds to sponsor low-income families participating in the BOUNCE programs.

BOUNCE also offers various workshops for the community. During the school year, the BOUNCE chef and nutrition instructors conduct cooking demonstrations that focus on creating healthy meals and snacks. Furthermore, BOUNCE provides grocery shopping tours to groups of low-income African American and Hispanic parents and adults to promote nutrition awareness and healthy food choices. These shopping tours, held at local grocery stores, are presented in Spanish and English.

In partnership with community organizations and the Houston Health Department, BOUNCE offers a gardening program to teach African American and Hispanic families how to grow herbs, fruits and vegetables.

BOUNCE also provides a Positive Parenting Workshop that promotes parenting techniques to foster healthy lifestyle behaviors. Parents and their children have the opportunity to learn strategies to deal with weight-related teasing and to encourage a positive body image.
