  • UH Carbon Dioxide Utilization Markets and Infrastructure: Status and Opportunities: A First Report
UH Energy Transition Institute director Joe Powell has served as one of three industry leads for a 14-member National Academy of Engineering study committee on Carbon Capture and Utilization. NASEM’s Carbon Utilization Infrastructure, Markets, Research, and Development Committee, established as part of the 2020 Energy Act, was chartered to identify opportunities for utilization of carbon dioxide as the economy shifts towards a carbon-neutral future, including market potential and infrastructure needs. The committee’s work will provide industry, research sponsors, and researchers with information about “key challenges needed to advance the infrastructure, market, science, and engineering required to enable carbon utilization relevant for a circular carbon economy.” The 3-year study was commissioned in January 2022, with a Phase-1 report on infrastructure needs issued Dec 1, 2022, with key recommendations to Congress.
