Award Recognizes Significance and Impact of Research
Riddhiman Medhi, a Summer 2020 Ph.D. graduate from the Department of Chemistry, received the Summer/Fall 2020 Dan E. Wells Outstanding Dissertation Award. This award goes to a doctoral student who has performed outstanding research and submitted the best dissertation to the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
The award was announced during the College’s Virtual Graduation Celebration on December 18. Dr. Medhi received a certificate and an award of $1,000.
The title of his dissertation is “Enhancing the Scope of Metal Oxide Nanoparticles via Doping and Plasmonic Coupling.” The work centers on the development of reliable new procedures for the synthesis of nanoparticles used to make enhanced semiconductor devices.
Nominated dissertations are evaluated for:
- Significance and impact of the research
- Originality of the work
- Quality of the scholarship
- Quality of the presentation and organization of the dissertation
Dr. Medhi is the first author of four publications and second author of three others; he is also co-author on two patents. His advisor, Randy Lee, and the dissertation committee commented on his impressive body of work that establishes the foundation for further research.
Dr. Medhi is currently doing postdoctoral research at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
