UH Energy Symposium Series Begins with Debate Over U.S. Energy Independence

The first debate in the UH Energy Symposium Series will begin Tuesday, Sept. 30, with an assessment of the nation’s prospects for energy independence and whether independence would be good for the United States. The popular symposium series, which began last year, will deliver four debates on different topics over the next six months.

Each debate will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the University Center Theater on the University of Houston campus.

Speakers for the first debate include Edward Chow, senior fellow in the Energy and National Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies; Ed Hirs, managing director of Hillhouse Resources, LLC and an energy economist at UH; and Jane Kleeb, founder and executive director of Bold Nebraska, a political action group active in the fight against the Keystone XL pipeline.
