  • TMF Jazz Institute for High School Students

    June 16-21, 2024

    Description:
    An intensive one-week summer institute for high school students, led by University of Houston faculty and Houston's top jazz musicians 

    What to look forward to:

    • The opportunity to work with University of Houston faculty and the city's elite jazz musicians and educators
    • Ensemble and sectional rehearsals
    • Improvisation, theory, and jazz history classes
    • Master classes  
    • Texas Music Festival concert admission
    • Final performance in the Moores Opera House

  • Application Requirements

    Application Requirements:

    • Open to high school aged students entering 9th grade through incoming college freshmen (Students must be entering 9th grade for fall 2024)
    • Completed application with non-refundable $40 application fee (payable by credit card through Acceptd application portal) due May 1, 2024.

    Tuition and Fees (all fees are non-refundable):

    • Application fee: $40 (Due with completed application by May 1, 2024, payable by credit card only, through Acceptd. Checks or cash not accepted.)
    • Registration: $350 (Due upon acceptance no later than May 31, payable by credit card only through Acceptd). Limited scholarship assistance is available. Contact Institute Director for information.

  • Schedule and Location

    Schedule: 
    All activities take place at UH Moores School of Music

    • Orientation/Part Auditions: Sunday, June 16, 1 – 4 p.m.
    • Daily Schedule: Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (NOTE: participants must bring own lunch Monday - Thursday. A BBQ lunch will be provided on June 21. Please notify the TMF office of any dietary restrictions)
    • Final Institute Concert: Friday, June 21, 7 p.m., Moores Opera House

    FAQ:

    Is there a residential option?

    • There is no residential option. All students register for the commuter camp.

    Can my child carpool with another student to/from camp? What if someone else needs to pick them up? 

    • Students are allowed to carpool or be picked up by someone other than their listed parent/guardian ONLY if the authorized person is listed in our records. That list can be updated anytime by emailing tmf@uh.edu, subject: Jazz Institute Pick Up Authorization

    Can my child drive themselves to/from camp? Can they drive with another student?

    • Students are allowed to drive, carpool, or be picked up by someone other than their listed parent/guardian ONLY if the authorized person is listed in our records. That list can be updated anytime by emailing tmf@uh.edu, subject: Jazz Institute Pick Up Authorization

    How do I park on campus? 

    • Parking permits for the duration of the Institute are available for an additional fee. Information will be provided in the weeks leading up to the Institute.
    • Alternatively, daily guest parking is available in lot 16B. You can find more information about directions, text-to-pay and guest parking HERE.

    How/when do I pay? 

    • Full tuition is due on May 31 through the Acceptd portal.

Middle School

  • TMF Jazz Institute for Middle School Students

    June 16-21, 2024

    Description:
    An intensive one-week summer institute for middle school students that runs concurrently with TMF’s High School Jazz Institute.

    What to look forward to:

    • Led by director, Jesse Espinoza, and assisted by members of the Moores School Jazz Orchestra
    • Ensemble and sectional rehearsals
    • Improvisation, theory, and jazz history training
    • Master classes  
    • TMF concert admission (see TMF calendar) 
    • Final performance in the Moores Opera House

    Application Requirements:

    • Open to 7th-8th grade students (Students must be entering 7th grade for fall 2024). 9th graders should apply to the high school institute.
    • Completed application with non-refundable $40 application fee (payable by credit card through Acceptd application portal) due May 1, 2024.
