Come enjoy the another exciting recital in the Moores School of Music Faculty Artist Series! Affiliate Artist in Guitar, Jeremy Garcia performs “Solero Flamenco: Nights in Spain” featuring fellow cast members Irma La Paloma, Solangel Lali Calix, Andrea González, and Andrés Felix. This performance will also feature Dr. Gabriela Estrada, Assistant Professor of Dance for KGMCA as a guest artist with Solero Flamenco!

 

PROGRAM

This program will feature Solero Flamenco, Houston’s Premier Flamenco Performance company in an energetic and engaging performance in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Nights in Spain will be a tablao style performance that will feature highly improvisational style flamenco, celebrating the multi-cultural roots of the genre. Song, guitar, dance, percussion will all be featured in pieces like Alegrías, Solea por Bulerías, Guajira, etc.

 

JEREMY GARCIA is classical and flamenco guitarist, award winning composer, recording artist and educator. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi and a Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. With extensive training in flamenco guitar and experience in accompanying cante and baile, García collaborates with top flamenco artists of the genre. He recently won the top prize in the flamenco category of the Septimo Concurso de Composición para Guitarra Fidelio (2023).

M. GABRIELA ESTRADA is thrilled to join the University of Houston’s McGovern College of the Arts as an Assistant Professor of Dance. She is a multicultural dance artist, educator, choreographer, journalist, and filmmaker committed to promoting diversity, equity, and belonging. Estrada holds a BA and an MFA in Dance from the University of California, Irvine, and a Ph.D. in Flamenco Interdisciplinary Studies from the Department of Sociocultural Anthropology and Philology at the University of Seville, Spain. Her creative and pedagogical experience embraces western theatrical dance forms, musical theatre, and flamenco, as well as Spanish and Latin American dance.
