A Conversation with Resident Artist Mike Durkin and Dr. Shannon Walsh

Thursday, April 6, 2023

4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

How can a sport impact a player, a fan, a neighborhood, a city? How can we utilize athletics in artmaking? These are some of the questions that the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center Resident Artist Mike Durkin asks when creating S-P-O-R-T-S-P-L-A-Y: A Performative Tailgate Installation, which will be presented on the UH campus at the end of April. This program will bring Durkin into conversation with Theatre and Performance scholar Dr. Shannon Walsh whose edited volume Sporting Performance: Politics in Play examines the intersections between theatre, and sport and physical culture in different geographic and historical contexts. A reception will follow.
The project has been funded by the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts.
Talk: 4:30-5:30pm
