This eclectic program will open with four charming works inspired by the “Poet of the piano.” We will begin by observing an intricate dance between Chopin and four dance partners from across the globe: George Crumb (US), Ada Gentile (Italy), Edvard Grieg (Norway) and Teodor Leschitizky (Poland). These dance partners at times borrow entire passages from the Romantic genius, while at other times flirt with his virtuosity or his harmonic language. This ballet culminates in one of the most monumental piano works of the 19th century: Chopin’s Sonata no. 3 in b-minor.”
