Zachary Gresham
Instructor, Arts Leadership Program

Zachary Gresham is an arts administrator and educator who currently serves as the Arts in Medicine Program Manager at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. In this capacity, he leads the Arts in Medicine team to connect pediatric patients and their families to visual arts, music, theater, and dance programming while receiving treatment. Activities include community collaborations with local arts organizations, large-scale collaborative projects, and one-on-one experiences. These sessions give patients a sense of control and purpose, reduce anxiety and pain, make patients more comfortable in the hospital environment, and build community among patients and families.

Previously, he worked at Art League Houston, Lawndale Art Center, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs at The City of Houston. Additionally, he has played cello with the Symphony of Southeast Texas since 2009 and occasionally freelances around the Houston area. Prior to teaching Technology in the Arts, a graduate seminar in the M.A. in Arts Leadership Program at The University of Houston, he taught Art in Elementary Schools, an art education course for upper-level education majors. His articles and interviews have been published in SchoolArts MagazineTeaching Artist Guild QuarterlyTRENDS, The Journal of the Texas Art Education Association, and Art History Teaching Resources and he has presented at conferences such as the National Art Education Association, National Guild for Community Arts Education, Texas Art Education Association, and the Houston Arts Partners Conference.

Zachary Gresham holds a B.A. from Lamar University, a certificate in nonprofit leadership from Rice University, participated in the Community Arts Education Leadership Institute (CAELI) through the National Guild for Community Arts Education and completed his M.A. in arts leadership and M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction - Art Education from the University of Houston.
