RHA Awarded for “Friendsgiving” Program

RHA Awarded for “Friendsgiving” Program

University of Houston’s Residence Hall Association (RHA) recently won the “Commitment to Service” award from the Southwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls Region at the 2019 Regional Business Conference. The award was in recognition of the National Residence Hall Honorary’s (NRHH) “Friendsgiving” program, sponsored by RHA, which provided a Thanksgiving meal to students and offered a service opportunity with City Wide Club.

RHA and NRHH recognized a need for a Thanksgiving Day program for students who remained on campus during the holiday. The goal was to provide students an opportunity to engage with other students and build a strong sense of community. After their meal, students attended City Wide Club’s “Super Feast,” where they served meals to those in need.

RHA assisted with the organization of this event and provided the budget necessary to implement the program.

NRHH Advisor, Amy Fitzjarrald said that she is “very proud of the student leaders for creating this program.

Some of our students may not have a safe place to go for the Thanksgiving holiday and/or may not have the means to get home...this program showed our residential community that our residence hall is home and we care,” she added.

Please join us in congratulating our student leaders on their successes.
