You’ll learn how to plan lessons, manage a classroom and support different learners. You’ll also spend time in real schools, building up to a yearlong student teaching experience with a mentor teacher.
Yes. At least half of UH’s partner districts offer a paid residency to student teachers. The typical stipend is about $20,000 a year (with some variation among districts).
Most classes are in person. Juniors are typically on campus about three days a week, with a mix of morning, afternoon and limited evening classes. Seniors are in class or at their student-teaching school five days a week (Monday – Friday).
Entering freshmen can graduate with a bachelor’s degree in teaching and learning in about four years. Transfer students with an associate degree can graduate with a bachelor’s degree in teaching and learning in about two years.
Yes, applicants should complete the FAFSA to be eligible for federal financial aid and need-based College of Education scholarships.
UH’s Alternative Certification Program is the best route to pursue teacher certification if you already have a bachelor’s degree. The ACP application typically opens in the fall.
