Sample SPIFF One - More Information

Home Page SPIFFs are SPIFF collections designed to be used on a Home-type Page. For information about SPIFFs used with Standard-type pages, see: Sample Page Three.

How Homepage SPIFFs are constructed

Home SPIFF Banks (sometimes also called Home SPIFF Lists) require a number of different pieces. Remember to publish out all the different pieces needed when you are ready:

  • You will need a "Home Page Spiffs" page-type asset — created either from your New Menu, or copied from one already in place elsewhere in your site. Because this is one of the 'specialized' page types, and is not designed to present as a stand-alone webpage, its system-name can be whatever your area wants it to be (always remember to follow UH filenaming conventions!). Upon creation from the Add Content menu it will already have a self-descriptive system name, and it is okay to just keep that name if desired. The asset itself should be placed at the same level as the home page which will "Choose" it (call its contents in). Within the asset tree site structure, it  needs to be a peer of the page which will be calling it so that everything works correctly.
  • Each SPIFF sub-item should have a Headline and a short "blurb" to briefly describe the story to which it links.
  • Images can create more visual interest, and are recommended but not strictly required.
    • It is recommended to size the image appropriately - use images which will present well at approximately 216 pixels wide.
    • The depth of the images may vary if desired, but the row of SPIFFs will look and work their best if the pictures used are all consistent in resolution and aspect ratio (same height and width in pixels) and are all JPEGs.
  • The information each item links to will ideally consist of one separate full webpage for each item, elsewhere in your site, with the full story for its respective SPIFF. These pages can be created within your site (recommended), or links can be external to your site.
