Six Coca-Cola Free Movie Nights planned for the academic year

By Jessica Mize

Auxiliary Services and the Student Program Board are once again teaming up to offer UH students the opportunity to enjoy free Coca-Cola sponsored movie screenings during the school year.

Three films will be shown each semester and Isaiah Pena, SPB cinema chair, has been hard at work on the lineup for the fall.

This semester’s movies will all be shown in the UC Theater. So far, two have been screened and one more is still to come:

  • Friday, Sept. 26 – 22 Jump Street
  • Thursday, Oct. 9 – Godzilla
  • Thursday, Dec. 4 – Frozen (times still to be determined)

In its third year, the program originally began as a way for Coke to give back to the University.

“Our department directly handles the contracts UH has with vendors like Coke, so it’s our job to make sure these partnerships enhance the overall student experience,” said Deborah Davis, assistant director of Auxiliary Services. “Partnering with SPB to offer these free movie nights has been a great way for us to do that.”

The movie nights have become a popular staple on campus, with some screenings attracting more than 400 attendees. To keep the momentum going this year, Pena plans to include additional activities for students to participate in before, during and after films including open mic sessions, games and more.

A valid Cougar Card is required to attend all screenings. For more information on upcoming movie nights, visit SPB’s website
