It’s hard to believe that this time last year Lachequa Magee was just getting settled into the Houston area. During the last twelve months, the book-loving transplant from Mississippi has done a lot, including landing a job as supervisor over Auxiliary Services.

Magee, who moved to Houston for a change of atmosphere, officially became a part of the Auxiliary Services team in December and has wasted no time throwing herself into the role.

“In addition to working closely with campus partners like Coke and Canteen to ensure work orders and requests are up to date and completed on time, my daily duties include overseeing the customer service staff members and student workers who work for Auxiliary Services and the Cougar Card Office,” said Magee. “I am loving it so far.”

A veteran in the customer service field, Magee brings over 15 years of experience to the table. A definite people person, she says working directly with customers, whether they be faculty, staff, students or campus visitors, is one of her favorite parts of the job.

“I love the numerous people I get to interact with here every day,” said Magee. “There’s definitely never a dull moment in the office.”

Helpful by nature, assisting people during normal business hours isn’t enough for Magee. In the few months she’s been on campus, she has already taken time out of her personal schedule to assist with events like the March of Dimes March for Babies and Finals Mania. She’s also a regular volunteer for the Houston Food Bank.

When she’s not busy helping others, Magee, who holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, loves to spend time playing tennis and catching up with her family. She’s also set a personal goal for herself to go back to school and continue her education.

“In the next five years, I see myself getting back into school,” said Magee. “I’d love to pursue a master’s degree.”
