Take steps to keep cool in the hot summer months

By Cindy Granier

As part of National Safety Month each June, the National Safety Council encourages extra care and precaution in maintaining personal and work safety.

Heat is one of the biggest safety concerns in the summer. The Environmental Health and Life Safety Department urges the University of Houston community to be mindful of the high temperatures and humidity levels that will be prevalent in Houston for the next several months.

Employees working outdoors, in settings without air conditioning or in an open and difficult to cool workspace are especially susceptible to heat-related illness and injury. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has tips to avoid heat-related problems as the summer progresses here in Houston.
