UH Parking and Transportation Services has been informed it will receive a Bronze Quill Award from the Houston chapter of International Association of Business Communicators for its new Word on the Street Blog.

Recognized in the Digital Communication category within the Communication Skills division, the department will find out if it will be receiving an Award of Merit or an Award of Excellence for its work during the organization’s yearly awards gala, taking place Thursday, June 16. Although the Award of Excellence is the more prestigious distinction of the two, receiving either is an honor and testament to the department’s hard work.

“We launched the blog during the fall 2015 semester in an effort to better inform faculty, staff and students about parking and transportation news and updates, as well as give them a glimpse into the inner workings of our department,” said Bob Browand, director of Parking and Transportation Services. “We’ve received some great feedback over the last few months; the blog has really changed how we communicate with the campus community.”

Some of the blog’s most popular posts include transparent, direct coverage of hot topics like permit oversell and the department’s budget.

“We’re honored to be recognized for our efforts, but the new conversations and relationships that have developed out of the blog are the real reward,” said Browand. “The Bronze Quill is just icing on the cake.”
