Campus Safety hosts its first chili cook-off

By Carolina Fernandez

The UH Department of Campus Safety hosted its first ever chili cook-off Dec.19 at the Environmental Health and Life Safety office.

Assistant Vice Chancellor/ Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety Malcolm Davis, Equal Opportunity Coordinator Mandisa Oliver and student worker Joel De Leon served as judges. They determined the winning chili entry based on the highest accumulated points given in each of the following categories: color, aroma, texture, flavor and heat.

Ron Harris, Valerie Smith and Wendell McCloud were the three employees who entered the competition. After a quick tasting by the judges, Harris, who is the manager of electronic control access, was named the winner.

Everyone who attended enjoyed a diverse selection of chili, sides, drinks and games. The department was pleased with the turnout and is looking forward to making it an annual event.
