Over the past few months, Dr. Moumita Mukherjee has been helping to develop a culture of assessment within the numerous departments that fall under the Division of Administration and Finance.

Mukherjee is the division’s services assessment and evaluation manager, a newly created position which she began in September.

In this role, she is assisting in the assessment and evaluation of the current state of services in key areas. She is also helping develop and implement a customer service philosophy within the division, and is contributing to the development and design of annual program assessments.

“I perceive my role as pivotal in developing assessment processes because this will allow us to make informed and data-driven decisions to promote student success, enhance national competitiveness and improve the overall customer service experience for the UH community,” she said.

Mukherjee is a trained research methodologist with a strong educational foundation in multiple social science disciplines and higher education. She earned a doctorate in educational psychology with a specialization in higher education from the University of Houston. She has a master’s degree in sociology from UH and another in political science from the University of Calcutta, India, where she also received a bachelor’s degree in political science.

She has six years of experience conducting research in higher education settings, primarily focused on student success and persistence. She has presented her research at national conferences and has been published as lead author and co-author in leading higher education journals.

Over the past few months, she’s been busy immersing herself in all of the duties of her position. Those include providing advice and guidance related to ongoing program assessment for division-wide services, as well as conducting statistical analysis of assessment outcomes and survey research to assist leaders in developing strategic plans using annual assessment data.

“I strongly believe I will be able to help the departments within the A&F division envision their data management in a novel way that will better serve our UH community,” she said.
