Designer Lecture: Ian Lynam
The School of Art presents “Fracture,” a talk by Ian Lynam, principle designer at Lynam Design. The Tokyo-based studio operates at the intersection of graphic design, design education and design research.
About the Lecture
What happens when a nation takes it all, then loses everything? A survey of Modern Japanese graphic design as the country learned what it means to become “modern,” to annex surrounding countries as a result, to win a half-dozen wars and then lose a world war, and to not be able to perceive the schizoid nature of post-imperialism. This lecture is a personal and empirical assessment of Japanese graphic design, ornament, nostalgia and a look at the national psyche in the contemporary context.
