Dean’s Reports

A New Era of Hospitality

With construction underway on our Hilton University of Houston’s new guest tower, “A New Era of Hospitality” has begun at Hilton College. This Dean’s Report details construction updates as well as some of the events, generosities and people who have helped the College remain at the forefront of hospitality education, despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic. From the Hilton Foundation’s $10 million legacy gift and outfitting our classrooms with the latest in technology, to establishing an exclusive partnership with the Culinary Institute of America and the addition of talented new faculty and staff, there have been more than a few silver linings that have been cause for celebration during an academic year quite like no other.

Recaps from our 50th Anniversary Year

On the heels of publishing our commemorative anniversary book, this “mini” Dean’s Report features updates on our golden anniversary events and building projects – including our hotel expansion and renovation, the West Wing renovation and relocation of Cougar Grounds, our new Sysco Student Kitchen, and plans for a student-run brewpub and fermentation lab. This issue also details our new undergraduate curriculum, new faces at the College and hotel, fast facts for placement of our graduates, a snapshot of our financial health and our donor honor roll for gifts received in 2018. Happy anniversary to us!

Career Development

At Hilton College, our ultimate goal is to prepare our students to be the future leaders of the global hospitality industry. This Dean’s Report features stories and stats about how the resources provided by our Career Development office help our students launch their leadership journeys, and how the office has evolved since its inception in 1989. Thanks to our incredible Career Development staff, employers, recruiters and faculty, our graduates are going places, and they continue to support each other long after they arrive. This report also recaps our game-changing building projects, a snap shot of our financial health and a thank you to our donors.

Student Success

Fall 2016 – Spring 2017

Student success is Provost Paula Myrick Short’s No. 1 initiative. It is the reason our faculty and staff come to work every day. Because Hilton College is so committed to this initiative, this Dean’s Report highlights what we are doing to facilitate and improve upon our student success. It features our dedicated staff in recruitment and enrollment, undergraduate academic services, graduate studies, career development and alumni engagement who interact with our students daily to help foster that success. This report also shares our vision for future growth, each phase of which is tied directly to our student success goals, a snap shot of our financial health and a list of donors who are helping to make all of this possible.

Successes & Stories: Portraits in Hospitality

Fall 2015 – Spring 2016

A new dean… a new mission… new successes and stories… July 1, 2016, marked Dr. Dennis Reynolds’ one-year anniversary as the new dean of Hilton College. After the year he’s had, it’s fair to say that we can no longer call him the “new” dean! This report, themed Successes & Stories, highlights these successes and shares just a few of the stories of our community. As our new mission statement avows, “… We embrace and foster an environment that includes Community…” This report also features a Q&A with Dean Reynolds about his first year at Hilton College.
