SAN MIGUEL BUILDS A REPUTATION OF EXCELLENCE

Staff Excellence Award recipient Cecilio San Miguel is no stranger to hard work.

As the lead carpenter for Physical Plant, San Miguel builds, installs and repairs wooden structures and fixtures. He also designs, installs and modifies suspended ceilings; repairs and replaces damaged fixed metal seating in auditoriums and classrooms; designs and builds cabinets, shelves and furniture; and performs other carpentry-related projects.

A colleague at the UH Law Center wrote in a letter of support, “If Mike were a private contractor, he would be in high demand. He comes in as scheduled, does an outstanding job, leaves no mess, and is gone.”

San Miguel, who has worked for UH since 1986, plans to remain at the university for many years to come.

“The university is a good place to work and I have good co-workers,” he said.

Staff Excellence Award honorees receive a certificate and a $1,000 check.
