        for the sixteenth century.

        A. & C. Black, 1933.  A helpful coverage  of the 16th C. in 
        England by ten-year periods with line drawings by the author.  The 
        drawings must be used with caution along with original sources. 
        Cunnington, C. Willett, & Cunnington, Phillis.  Handbook of English 
        Costume in the Sixteenth Century.  London: Faber, 1954. Another 
        standard research volume in a series on English dress by two of 
        England’s foremost authorities on costume. Hale, 
        John r. Renaissance.  The Great Ages of Man Series. New York: 
        Time-Life Books, 1965.  A beautifully illustrated book with extensive  
        color photography, covering the major cultural, intellectual, and 
        artistic developments of the Renaissance. 
        Laver,  James, ed. Costumes of the Western World.   New York:  
        Harper & Row, 1951.  This was the first volume in comprehensive series 
        that was to be a complete coverage of the history of dress.  This volume 
        on the 16th C. was the only one completed, but it remains a
