Brooke, Iris. English Costume in the Age of Elizabeth.  London: A. & C. Black, 1933.  A helpful coverage  of the 16th C. in England by ten-year periods with line drawings by the author.  The drawings must be used with caution along with original sources.

Hale, John r. Renaissance.  The Great Ages of Man Series. New York: Time-Life Books, 1965.  A beautifully illustrated book with extensive  color photography, covering the major cultural, intellectual, and artistic developments of the Renaissance.

Laver,  James, ed. Costumes of the Western World.   New York:  Harper & Row, 1951.  This was the first volume in comprehensive series that was to be a complete coverage of the history of dress.  This volume on the 16th C. was the only one completed, but it remains a very useful source.
