Brantl, Ruth, ed.  Medieval Culture.  The culture of Mankind Series.  New York: Braziller, 1966.  An excellent compilation of writings form original sources on early and later medieval culture.

Brooke, Iris.  English Costume of the Early Middle Ages.  London: A. & C.  Black, 1936.  A useful coverage of the costume in England from 900 to 1300 with line drawings by the author.  These must be sued with a certain caution in conjunction with original sources.

Cunnington, C. Willet, & Cunnington, Phillis.  Handbook of English Medieval Costume.  Philadelphia: Dufour, 1952.  Another standard research volume in a series on English dress by two of England’s foremost authorities on costume.

Freemantle, Anne.  Age of Faith.  The Great Ages of Man Series.  New York: Time-Life Books, 1965.  Covers the intellectual, artistic, and cultural developments in Europe from the Romanesque through the Gothic periods.

Hartley, Dorothy, & Elliot, Margaret M.  Life and Work of the People of England from the Eleventh to the thirteenth Century.  New York: Putnam, 1931.  Still a very useful book form which to obtain a picture of medieval life in England during the early Middle Ages.
