Message from the Dean
Welcome to the fall 2018 semester at the University of Houston College of Nursing – ranked the #1 nursing program in the state of Texas by Registerednursing.org! We welcome our returning students and our new students in the MSN and RN-to-BSN programs, and our new faculty and staff! This year our theme is “PROGRAMMING”. We are building capacity in the RN-to-BSN program, traditional BSN on the new UH Katy campus, and Doctor of Nursing Practice program which has been approved at the UH Board of Regents. This year we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Indian Nursing Council as they begin nurse practitioner critical care and DNP programs in India. Dr. Shainy Varghese and I visited India this summer to further our relationship with the Indian Nursing Council and nursing programs in India. The CON received, for the second year in a row, the Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) award. We were one of 8 nursing programs to receive this national award given for diversity and inclusion. The NCLEX-RN and FNP national certification first time pass rates are 100% for 2015, 2016, 2017. The Nursing Alumni Association was formed this year and we are proud of our first officers: President -Tom Omondi (’12, ’14); Vice-President – Mark Yap (’11, 18’); Secretary - Michaela Brady (’14); Co-Secretary – Pam Heise (’14); Treasurer - Gilbert Barrera (’13); Membership/Events – Lorraine Cull (’12). Be looking for PROGRAMMING from all these initiatives!
Thank you for being a NURSE!!
