Jamf Pro

Jamf Pro is the University of Houston’s platform for managing and securing state-owned Apple macOS computers and iOS devices. It supports UH’s compliance with state of Texas cybersecurity requirements (SB 1893) and ensures institutional Macs, iPhones, and iPads are configured, updated, and monitored according to university policy.

Jamf provides UH with the ability to manage devices more effectively - especially in areas where traditional macOS and iOS tools fall short.

What is Jamf Pro?

Jamf Pro is a comprehensive macOS/iOS management system that gives your local IT the ability to remotely configure, secure, and support university-owned Macs. It is used to apply required security settings, enforce compliance standards, and assist with software deployment and support.

Institutional Control for University-Owned Macs

Jamf enables policy enforcement across macOS devices, including firewall configuration, encryption settings, and application restrictions - without depending on user action.

Policy-Driven Security Configuration

Devices enrolled in Jamf receive system settings that support encryption, disable unauthorized features, and meet baseline requirements defined by UIT security policies and state law.

Remote Management and Troubleshooting

Departmental IT staff can provide assistance, push updates, and monitor health indicators across managed Macs, iPhones, and iPads - even if the device is off campus.

Standardized Software Deployment

Essential UH applications can be distributed and updated through Jamf’s Self Service portal, where available. Some installations may still require IT support.

Why Use It?

Required for Compliance

State-owned macOS and iOS devices must meet security requirements defined in Senate Bill 1893. Jamf enables UH to fulfill these requirements consistently across all university-owned Macs.

Improved Security Posture

Jamf helps enforce encryption (FileVault), disable unnecessary services, and restrict high-risk applications - supporting the protection of UH data and systems.

Streamlined Device Oversight

Jamf provides your local IT with visibility into the health and status of university-owned Apple devices, improving issue response time and support efficiency.

Getting Started

Jamf enrollment must be coordinated through your local IT. If you use a university-owned Mac, iPhone, or iPad that is not yet enrolled, please contact your department’s local IT support or designated technology manager to begin the process.
