Microsoft Intune
Microsoft Intune is the University of Houston’s platform for managing and securing state-owned Windows computers. It helps UH meet state of Texas cybersecurity requirements (SB 1893) while ensuring devices remain updated, compliant, and protected - wherever they’re used.
What is Intune?
Intune is a cloud-based service that enables UH to manage university-owned Windows devices remotely. It enforces security policies, maintains compliance, and improves operational support - without disrupting daily work.
Security That Works in the Background
Devices receive regular updates and security patches without manual intervention. Security policies remain in effect whether a device is on or off campus.
Cloud-Based Management
Intune functions over the internet, allowing secure device oversight without requiring VPN or a campus network connection.
Built-In Compliance
Intune enforces mandated controls - such as blocking unauthorized applications - to help ensure compliance with state of Texas policies and SB 1893.
Why Use It?
Faster, More Effective IT Support
Intune enables remote troubleshooting and device management, allowing your local IT to resolve issues more efficiently and reduce downtime.
Protection for Research and Institutional Data
Intune can enforce device encryption, system updates, and threat detection to safeguard sensitive work - including research, instructional content, and administrative data.
Compliance with State of Texas Law
Senate Bill 1893 requires all state-owned devices to be centrally managed and secured. Intune helps UH meet these obligations by enforcing device policies and restricting access to prohibited applications.
Getting Started
Most UH-owned Windows devices will be enrolled automatically. If your device is off campus or has not recently connected to the university network, it may need to be brought to campus for enrollment.
To confirm your device’s status or prepare for enrollment, please contact your department’s local IT support or designated technology manager.
