Leah Singer

Leah Singer, program coordinator for Cougars In Recovery, was selected as the Association of Recovery in Higher Education (ARHE) Staff Member of the Year. The ARHE collegiate recovery Staff Member of the Year award honors a college or university staff member who has displayed support and commitment to a collegiate recovery program beyond the designated level of expectation. This individual goes above and beyond to help students, support their program, and grow the field of collegiate recovery.

The Association of Recovery in Higher Education is the only association exclusively representing collegiate recovery programs and collegiate recovery communities, the faculty and staff who support them, and the students who represent them. ARHE provides the education, resources, and community connection needed to help change the trajectory of recovering student’s lives. They are a network of professionals, administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents, and policymakers.

A University of Houston alumna, Leah joined the Cougars in Recovery team in October 2016. In her role, Leah serves as a counselor, academic coach, and as a liaison to resources for students in Cougars in Recovery and she oversees the Outdoor Adventure Learning Experience program, Source of Strength Leadership Program, Career Ready Coogs Professional Development Program, and the Annual Graduation Celebration Dinner. Leah was honored during the 2018 Association of Recovery in Higher Education/Association of Recovery Schools Awards Ceremony and Gala on July 9, 2018.

“I am immensely grateful to be selected as the ARHE Staff Member of the Year. It is a privilege to work alongside the passionate, and fearless leaders in the field of addiction and recovery,” stated Leah Singer. “Promoting wellness in recovery for students who are on the pursuit of higher education is a challenging and gratifying dream come true. The fulfillment I receive from witnessing the growth and evolution of each student member fuels my passion to show up my best and put forth my best for each community member. When I reflect on my position within Cougars in Recovery, I sincerely connect with this quote from Mark Twain: “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Please join us in congratulating Leah Singer on receiving the ARHE Collegiate Recovery Staff Member of the Year Award.
