George Hill

George Hill is the newest member of the Student Housing & Residential Life Department (SHRL) at the University of Houston.

Hill is a Residential Life Coordinator for Cougar Village II, and was most recently at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where he served as a Graduate Assistant of Leadership in the Residential Life office.

“George brings positive energy, excitement and a willingness to do what’s necessary to get the job done,” said Hill’s supervisor, Courtney McElroy, the SHRL Assistant Director for Recruitment. “I am excited to have George as a part of the team for his fresh outlook on how we can improve our services to our students and staff.”

Hill has worked in residential life since 2012 when he was a resident assistant. He has won multiple awards for both work and volunteer services. In the spring of 2012 he was awarded the Sophomore Student of the Year at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and the next year was awarded the Best Male Resident Assistant of the Year there too.

“My personal Student Affairs philosophy is to be a seed; I strive to ‘Serve, Educate, Engage and Develop’ as many people as I can,” said Hill. He added, “SHRL provides a perfect opportunity for students to cultivate their social, academic, personal, and emotional development through an inclusive, accepting, and developmental environment.”

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in Lafayette, and then attended LSU for a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education Administration.

Hill has unique experience in working at the “Circus of the Kids” for three years. He performed on the mini trampoline doing flips, jumping through rings of fire and aerial tricks. He also juggled one year and can juggle up to five items at a time. His last year there he performed on the “globe,” which is a huge concrete ball in which he balanced people on his back, neck and hands.
