The Student Housing and Residential Life (SHRL) Opening Committee has been selected to receive the University of Houston Group Excellence Award. This new award is given to a department, office, area, committee or other functional work group that demonstrates excellence in delivering their designated service or has demonstrated outstanding performance on a special project, event or activity.

The Opening Committee plans and executes the residential fall opening for all Student Housing & Residential Life, which operates 8,008 bed spaces. The goal of the committee is to provide a welcoming, easy and fast check-in process for students and their families with as little stress as possible.

“As a team we have completely changed the opening experience for our students and their families/friends; making it easier, friendlier, faster, and less stressful. This committee and its work with opening models our value of work with an ethic of care and supporting students,” remarked Don Yackley, Executive Director of Student Housing and Residential Life.

The SHRL Opening Committee will be recognized at the Staff Awards Day ceremony and luncheon on August 15 and will receive a plaque to commemorate their achievement.

Join us in congratulating the SHRL Opening Committee on their award.
