June 5, 2014 – Patrick Lukingbeal will join the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services as the new director of Wellness effective June 9, 2014. UH Wellness provides campus-wide education and prevention programs that support student success by promoting healthy choices and creating a healthier, safer learning environment across all dimensions of wellness. The department serves as a complement to the other health and wellness areas within the Division that takes a holistic approach to offer programs and services that address the mind, body, and spirit.

Lukingbeal has over seven years of experience in various higher education capacities, including conduct, residence life, and the latest three years have focused on wellness. His most recent position was at Rice University as the student wellbeing specialist in the Student Wellbeing Office within the Dean of Undergraduates Office. He has been at Rice since 2011 and served in his most recent role since 2013. In the Student Wellbeing Office, Lukingbeal was the primary liaison for all major wellbeing outreach and communications to residential college personnel, student organizations, and academic departments. He also held leadership and advisory roles for several organizations and awareness programs, including the Women’s Resource Center, LGBTQ support, alcohol awareness and safety, bystander intervention, mental health, consent, and healthy relationships. Within his previous positions at Rice as a social responsibility specialist of the Wellness Center and assistant director of Student Judicial Programs, Lukingbeal coordinated wellness education and sexual violence curriculum and training workshops. He was also instrumental in guiding students through the code of conduct process and communicating with campus partners on threat and risk assessment matters.

Prior to his tenure at Rice, Lukingbeal served as an interim administrative and financial coordinator, and later, a hall director, at Georgetown University, and a graduate hall director at Texas A&M University.

Lukingbeal is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Individual Differences at the University of Houston. He received his Master of Education in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies, from Texas A&M University.
