About the Event
In the past decade, Fannin has developed a hybrid model to commercialize academic pharmaeutical/biotechnology research, combining traditional out-licensing with a VC-style startup approach. Acting as both the management team and early investor, Fannin partners with academic inventors, advancing technologies with strategic use of grant funding. Fannin has managed ~35 programs, including three in clinical stages, and secured $260 million in funding, with $75 million from grants. Focused primarily on early-stage pharma/biotech, Fannin de-risks in-licensed assets, creating spun-out companies as they mature toward commercialization. Its pipeline includes products in pivotal studies, Phase IIB and FDA-bound next year.
About the Speaker
Atul Varadhachary is a physician-scientist and managing partner at Fannin, where he also serves as CEO or board member for Fannin-established companies. Previously, he was President & COO of Agennix, Inc., advancing its lead molecule to Phase 3 trials and overseeing its successful sale. His career includes leadership roles at Reliance Life Sciences and McKinsey & Co., seving on non-profit boards, including BioHouston and Harris Health and advising organizations such as the American Chemical Society, Biotechnology Innovation Organization and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
