Welcome Center Student Garage is now open

What has four floors, 1,500 spaces and is just for students?

The answer is the Welcome Center Student Garage, the newest addition to the Parking and Transportation Services family at the University of Houston.

The garage is located east of Moody Towers, north of Wheeler and west of Calhoun. It is expected to have an immediate positive impact on parking at the university with its 1,500 spaces dedicated for student parkers.

"We're excited to have this wonderful facility opening right before the start of the fall semester," said Robert Browand, director of Parking and Transportation Services. "It will provide instant relief to students who commute by more than doubling the amount of parking previously available in this busy area of campus."

The 500,000-square-foot garage was designed by Morris Architects and constructed by Tellepsen. It has two entrances: one off Entrance 4 on the building's southwest side, and the other on its north side that is accessible from either Entrance 4 or Calhoun.

In addition to the spaces in the garage's four floors, students are also able to park on the roof, which adds a fifth level of parking, as well as the roof of the adjacent Welcome Center Garage. Students can access that area via a bridge that connects the two parking garages.

The new garage marks the fourth constructed on campus over the past seven years. The Stadium Parking Garage opened in 2012, the East Parking Garage in 2009, and the Welcome Center Garage in 2006.
