Vegetarian and gluten friendly station expands in Fresh Food Company

University of Houston Dining Services is expanding the vegetarian and gluten friendly offerings in the Fresh Food Company at Moody Towers by splitting these options into two separate stations.

The two stations are located between the round grill and brick oven stations with the vegetarian station facing the salad bar and the gluten friendly station facing the seating and window area.

The vegetarian station will offer vegetarian and vegan items that range from sides, entrees and alternative protein choices. The gluten friendly station will feature gluten friendly options like beef tangine, chicken fried rice, and shrimp and bacon risotto. Both stations use individualized cooking utensils and have separate storage to help prevent cross-contamination as much as possible.

"At UH we have students with a variety of dietary needs," said UH Dining Dietitian Sarah Feye. "UH Dining Services continues to work diligently to best accommodate both diet and nutritional needs of the diverse UH community."

Diners who are not vegetarian or do not have gluten allergies can still enjoy the two new stations. Feye said eating vegetarian or gluten friendly options can provide health benefits. Vegetarian options provide lots of fiber and lower fats white gluten friendly options allow people to incorporate a variety of healthy grains to their diet.
