Connect by Hertz Car Sharing

As a continuation of many other Green initiatives on campus, Green UH and the Department of Parking and Transportation Services are proud to announce the implementation of their very own car sharing program, partnering with Hertz to take advantage of their Connect by Hertz Program.

Connect by Hertz is the University Car Share division of Hertz, and this program will allow university faculty, staff and students to rent a car without ever leaving the University campus.

Bob Browand, Director of Parking and Transportation Services, feels that students will no longer need to be burdened with the expense of keeping a vehicle on campus, because with Connect by Hertz, their transportation solution is only a click away.

Cars may be rented by the hour, and the rate is all inclusive, so that fuel and insurance are also included in the cost.

When participants sign up for an annual membership, they will receive a membership card used to access the vehicles. In addition, online reservations make booking cars easy.

Those interested in the program are encouraged to register early, as students, faculty, or staff who sign up by December 31 will be able to waive the usual $50 annual membership fee and the $25 application fee.

Additionally, the first 100 students to register for the program will receive $35 in their account to begin driving. This equates to approximately four hours of free drive time, and a combined savings of $110.

The Connect by Hertz program has been a growing success, currently holding partnerships with 33 different universities throughout the country, including one other in Texas at the University of North Texas.

Different styles of cars will be available to meet the needs of each commuter from compact to sedan to specialty.

UH will begin the program with four cars, including a Mazda 3, Mazda 6, Ford Fusion and a Ford Escape. Vehicle rates will start at $8 per hour but will vary depending on the model.

Other beneficial features available in the cars include up-to-date accessories such as GPS systems and current safety features.

The University of Houston is excited to announce this partnership with Hertz, and the opportunity to provide more sustainable options to commuters on campus.
