Emergency Alert System
The first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS)
will occur on November 9, 2011, at 1 PM CDT. The purpose of the
test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS
in alerting the public during emergencies. The Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) will use the results of this test to assess the
systems performance.
This event serves as a reminder that everyone should establish
an emergency preparedness kit and emergency plan for themselves,
their families, communities and businesses. Anyone can visit
www.Ready.gov for more information about how to
prepare for and stay informed about what to do in the event of
an actual emergency. UH Emergency Management reminds our
students, faculty and staff to update their 72-hour Emergency
Campus/Travel Preparedness Kit.
