GREEN ORGANIZATIONS LOOKING FOR UH STUDENTS FOR INTERNSHIPS
Sustainable organizations are
taking notice of the talent and drive of our UH students.
Several groups have recently contacted Green UH with hopes of
recruiting students with an interest in sustainability for
internship opportunities.
The internship opportunities range in specialties, including
positions focused on real estate, writing, accounting and
gardening. Leah Wolfthal, Program Coordinator for
Sustainability, posts the opportunities on the Green UH social
media pages as well as in the weekly
Sustainability Newsletter found
online.
Here is a list of current internship opportunities available to
UH students:
Green Build Education, City of Houston Green Build Resource
Center � Green building immersion opportunity. Volunteer with the program director of the City of Houston Green Building Resource Center serving the mission �to enable the public to experience and learn more about energy, water and material conservation design and construction; also known as Green Building.� Internship is offered for a minimum of 4 hours per week, consecutively. Communications, Grant Writing, Keep Houston Beautiful � For 28
years, Keep Houston Beautiful (KHB) has been reaching out to all
segments of our community to educate and empower individuals to
take greater responsibility for beautifying and enhancing
Houston�s environment. Job duties include grant writing and
assisting community organizers with completing cleanup packets
and registering their event with KHB and Site Box Score
retrievals. Also will assist in sending communications to KHB
volunteer database and with Adopt a Block processing. For more

Social Media, Keep Houston Beautiful � KHB is looking for a
volunteer to help them promote spring events through social
media. For more information, contact Robin Blut at

Business/Accounting Intern, Urban Harvest - This position will
include any or all of the following: Accounts payable
disbursements, schedules of disbursement in Excel, spreadsheets
of expense reports, database management, comparison reports of
budgets vs. actual, membership communications, department
reports. They are willing to work with you on the number of

Community Gardens Intern, Urban Harvest � Responsibilities can
include any or all of the following: Gain/use knowledge of
bioregional gardening, which includes information on vegetables,
fruits, herbs and habitat plants; assist community gardeners in
maintaining gardens; promote ecological pest management; assist
with managing gardens; community building; volunteer
recruitment; help build gardens. Physical requirements and

Writer Intern, Urban Harvest - Writing is needed in all of the
Urban Harvest programs and can include any or all of the
following: Articles for the newsletter; class descriptions for
the website; farmers market descriptions for the website and
weekly newsletter; fundraising assistance; advertising for
classes, farmers markets and community gardens; Spanish
translation is needed periodically, but not a requirement for
internship. They are willing to work with you on the number of

Farmers Market Intern, Urban Harvest - Responsibilities include
general operations at any of the five farmers markets. Work with
the intern coordinator to design a program specific to your
strengths and needs. This can include any or all of the
following: small business management; general accounting;
digital communications; marketing. Urban Harvest is willing to
work with you on the number of hours needed. For more

Youth Garden Instructor and Outreach Coordinator Intern, Urban
Harvest - Internship can include any or all of the following:
teaching, garden site support, communication, leadership and

281-865-1966. Internship is 12 hours weekly, but can be
negotiated to fit your needs.
Sustainability Intern, Weingarten Realty � Intern will assist
property management department with sustainability and green
initiatives for Weingarten owned and managed properties.
Responsibilities include: creating and generating reports to
quantify fiscal results, performing waste, water and lighting
audits; create scoring system to measure green sustainability
efforts; research and report market tax incentives and utility
rebate programs; create sustainability information for
distribution to property management department, prepare
presentation summarizing accomplishments of internship.
Internship pays $12 per hour. Candidates must be actively
working on degree in real estate, environmental
science/sustainability or related field. Master�s degree student
