New Digital Parking Meter Used Near Calhoun Lofts

A new digital parking meter system has been installed in the visitor parking area next to Calhoun Lofts.

This meter, called the LUKE, is a multi-space pay station which is able to regulate the entire visitor lot, instead of having a meter at each parking space.

The meter is the same model being used in Downtown Houston for street parking. The machine is able to accept dollar bills and credit cards, including Visa and MasterCard.

There will be 3 rates applied to parkers in this visitor lot. During business hours, Mon-Fri 7am to 5pm, it will cost $1 per hour with a maximum of 2 hours allowed. In the evening, Mon-Fri 5pm to 7am the next morning, it will cost $3 for the entire stay. On weekends and holidays, there will be a flat $3 charge per day.

The Parking and Transportation department is planning to install 3 more of these machines in the near future to serve the needs of visitors coming to campus, said Fidel Ramirez, Assistant Director of Parking & Transportation.
