Bernie's Burger Bus

Do you need to take a field trip? Bernie's Burger Bus is the place to go when your taste buds need a vacation from everyday life.

Bernie's Burger Bus opened Oct. 2, 2010. It has been serving the UH campus since fall 2012.

The food truck has been a dream for owner Justin Turner since 2001. He was a personal chef for a professional athlete for seven years before creating his burger truck.

Bernie's Burger Bus is creating consistency on the campus for true burger fans.

"Just being able to have a constant audience five days a week for 12 months has been really great," Turner said. "Being on campus has been good. I love consistency."

Turner expresses how UH has helped Bernie's Burger Bus maintain its presence.

"UH has solidified the fact that we can be in the same parking lot all the time," he said. "We feel like we have built quite a niche here at UH."

Turner feels that students have been a positive force for his food truck's presence on campus.

"We have had a lot of positive feedback here on campus," said Turner. "People order a fair amount of everything on the menu here."

Bernie's Burger Bus makes seasonal burgers that are added to the rotation throughout the year.

"We do seasonal burgers -'The Fire Drill' and 'The Study Hall,'" Turner said.

The Study Hall is topped with Texas cheese and braised pork belly. The Fire Drill is dressed with pepper jack cheese, chipotle aioli and spicy guacamole.

"I really like the burgers here at Bernie's," said Cameron Wallace, a sophomore business major. "My favorite thing is the double meat bacon cheeseburger with fries."

Students value the quality that Bernie's offers when it comes to getting to class fast.

"It is the best burger on campus," said Wallace. "They get the food out quick and the fries are really good. I like that the burgers are very juicy and well cooked, too."
