Once again, UH makes Princeton Review�s Guide to Green Colleges
When it comes to
environmentally responsible �green colleges,� the University of
Houston once again ranks among the best in the nation.
UH is included in the
Princeton Review�s Guide to 322 Green
Colleges: 2013 Edition, which profiles 320 schools in
the United States and two in Canada that demonstrate notable
commitments to sustainability efforts. The guide has been
compiled every year since 2010 in partnership with the United
States Green Council. UH has been included each time.
�UH�s efforts to become a sustainable community begin with
promoting environmental literacy and sustainable behavior on
campus, and coordination for sustainability research and campus
operational progress,� the guide says of UH.
The guide had good things to say about the Burdette Keeland Jr.
Design Exploration Center, which has the only sloped green roof
in the city. Also mentioned is the community garden that grows
fresh produce for an area food pantry. UH Dining�s
sustainability efforts were noted, as was the university�s
participation in the national RecycleMania competition.
�It�s quite an honor to once again be recognized by The
Princeton Review,� said Emily Messa, associate vice
chancellor/associate vice president for Administration. �It�s
proof of the emphasis that the university has placed on growing
sustainability efforts across the campus.�
Only five schools in Texas made the list. Besides UH, the others
are Baylor University, University of North of Texas, University
of Texas at Austin and University of Texas at Dallas.
As a result of the university�s dedication to enhancing
sustainability efforts, the
Office of Sustainability was
created last year. It grew out of GreenUH, which promoted daily
green practices on campus.
