Package FAQ's

Do I have to have my UH Cougar Card to pick up a package or mail?
The UH Cougar Card is the official identification on campus and is the only acceptable form of identification for current Students, Staff, and Faculty members wanting to pick up mail and packages. Digital Cougar Card can be brought up in the My UH app or by logging into AccessUH on your device and clicking on the Cougar Card icon.

What are your hours?
The Central Sorting Facility (main location) is open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. We are closed on weekends and any university holiday closures.

I received a notice to pick up my package to Identify. Where do I go to pick up?
A package needing to be identified will be picked up at the main location. You will come to the General Services Building, 4211 Elgin St Room 150 (across the street from Architecture).

Where is my package (any item with a tracking number)?
In order to help locate a package, we will need to know:

  • if you are a Resident, Staff, or Faculty member so we can search in the correct system Residents – we need your PeopleSoft (MyUH)#
  • If we cannot find any pending items in our system for you, we will need the tracking number(s) in order to assist further.

Where is my mail (regular non-trackable)?
If a piece of mail does not have a tracking number then it is not possible to track its location. However, you can send an email with as many details related to the item as possible and we can contact you if we are able to locate the item amongst that mail that has been received at our facility. Details we would need include:

  • Your name and address that sender actually put
  • Sender’s name and city/state (if known)
  • Date of mailing
  • Physical description of a mail envelope, small box, padded envelope, color, shape, etc. (if known)
  • Your contact phone number and email address are to be contacted back

When will I get my package?

  • In order to provide an estimated time of delivery, will need to know:
  • if you are a Resident, Staff, or Faculty member so we can search in the correct system
  • Residents – we need your PeopleSoft (MyUH)#
  • If we cannot find any pending items in our system for you, we will need the tracking number(s) in order to assist further.

When do packages go out for delivery to residential halls?
Resident packages are typically taken out for delivery soon after lunchtime, after 12 pm.

I am a staff/faculty member…why did FedEx deliver my package to your facility, and not directly to my department?
understand that it is an inconvenience that your item was not delivered directly to your department by the carrier. However, UH Delivery Services does not have any control over FedEx and FedEx drivers. Carriers such as FedEx, UPS, and DHL will attempt to deliver items to departments, but if not able to then they would bring them to our location. If we do not accept the packages, then FedEx, UPS, and DHL would have to return packages to the sender. They would not attempt to deliver a second time. Causes for this could be incomplete address, insufficient address, no street address, use of campus building names but no street address (physical street addresses MUST be used), or no one is available to sign for packages at the time of delivery.

Can I send outgoing mail and packages from your main location?
Anything that has a prepaid label can be dropped off here. Anything that needs postage, we can sell postage to send via USPS, UPS, or DHL.

Can I drop off my return package at our location?
If it has not been opened, or the sender has provided a prepaid return label, then you can drop it off with us. If you have opened the item, and it does not have a prepaid return label from the sender, then you will have to pay the postage to ship to the sender.

Do you have mailing supplies?
Yes, we have letter envelopes and yellow manila envelopes for sale. We also have some types of USPS and UPS mailing envelopes and boxes which are free of charge. If you have items that do not fit in one of those supplies, we can assist in finding a box that will fit your contents.

I ordered Amazon 2 day shipping, One-day, USPS Express, but why have I not gotten my package?

Amazon can choose to ship items via USPS, UPS, or Amazon Prime which are local drivers.

  • If the package is shipped via USPS, it will be delivered to the local USPS station in the One-Day or 2-Day shipping option you chose. However, USPS may not release to UH until 1-2 days later or longer sometimes when they are behind.
  • USPS Express packages are the same way. If the package is received at the USPS station and they have not sorted it for UH release, then UH will not get all those items until the USPS station releases them to UH.
