According to one colleague, Fox is regarded not only as one of the
co-founders of the field of molecular phylogenetics, but also as
one of its leading practitioners for the past 30 years.
The professorship is a five-year renewable award that carries a
$10,000 annual stipend and is given to faculty who are outstanding
in teaching, research and service.
