COLBERT’S INNOVATIVE TEACHING HELPS STUDENTS

Imagine a teacher who inspires students to get up early and rush to class, and you’ll envision Costa M. Colbert.

Colbert, associate professor of biology and biochemistry, is a recipient of a Teaching Excellence Award.

“He’s an incredible teacher,” said one student. “This is the first time I wanted to wake up at 6 a.m. to come to class.”

“I consider non-lecture materials in my courses to be very important,” Colbert said.

“I am willing to try anything at least a couple of times to help students quickly comprehend the subject matter.”

Recipients of the award receive a trophy and a $5,000 check. Nominees must be tenured/tenure track faculty demonstrating excellence in teaching. Four awards are given.
