UHDPS Among Group Honored for Datacasting Project

Houston, Dec. 11, 2015 — Security Technology Executive magazine and SecurityInfoWatch.com have named the University of Houston Department of Public Safety, in collaboration with other public safety users, as one of their 2015 Security Innovation Award winners.

The Houston Area Urban Area Security Initiative District, comprising members from the city of Houston, Houston Police Department, Texas Medical Center, NRG Stadium, Metro Police Department and the Harris County Sheriff's Office, were presented - along with UHDPS and Houston Public Media - the Grand Platinum Award for 2015.

The group was recognized for its work on the datacasting project. Datacasting is a way to broadcast encrypted secured data and video to a receiver (USB drive/Ethernet connection) to multiple individuals in the field by way of a TV antenna using specialized software.

Steve Lasky, editorial director of Security Technology Executive, described the datacasting project as "so unique in its scope and application that it was a unanimous selection as the 2015 Grand Platinum winner signifying the top overall security project of the year."
