SKYWARN Storm Spotter Training a success

Dan Reilly, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service Office for Houston-Galveston, in collaboration with the University of Houston Office of Emergency Management, conducted a SKYWARN Storm Spotter Training on campus on March 21.

SKYWARN Spotters are a group of trained volunteers that watch the skies during severe weather and relay reports back to local emergency management officials and the National Weather Service. There were 29 participants who came from all over the Houston area to learn how to identify different types of severe weather incidents.

"The National Weather Service actually relies on the reports from SKYWARN Spotters to issue weather warnings," UH Emergency Management Specialist Kelly Boysen said.
