Conrad N. Hilton College - San Antonio Finds Permanent Home in Sunset Station 10/22/2014
SAN ANTONIO—It’s official: The Conrad N. Hilton College–San Antonio has secured a permanent home in the heart of the Alamo City’s famed Sunset Station.
San Antonio’s only bachelor’s-level hospitality program will be housed in the historic Mission Hotel building, a landmark of Sunset Station since 1905. Extensive renovations are already under way, with classes set to begin in the new facility in June of 2015.
“As a leader in hospitality education, it’s fitting that the Conrad N. Hilton College – San Antonio will call such a historic hotel building home. We look forward to educating the future leaders of the hospitality industry in this space,” Dr. Graham Bowcher, associate dean, said.
Thanks to a partnership between the University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management and St. Philip’s College, classes began in fall 2014, giving students the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management from the University of Houston without ever leaving San Antonio. All classes will be held on the St. Philip’s campus until the Sunset Station facility renovations are completed this summer.
St. Philip’s currently offers two-year associate’s degrees in hospitality management and culinary arts which, due to an articulation agreement, contribute prerequisites for successful transfer to Hilton College–San Antonio. Students who transfer in from other four-year colleges can also pick up the hospitality and general education prerequisites they might need at St. Philip’s, then continue with their upper-division courses in the Hilton College program.
San Antonio students will have access to all the same benefits as students at the Houston campus, including the Hilton College Career Development & Placement Office, an extensive alumni network and study-abroad programs in Peru, Australia, France, Hong Kong and Mexico.
A special info session for prospective students and their parents, educators and community members will be held at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa on Saturday, November 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. College administrators and industry leaders will be on hand to discuss the Hilton College-San Antonio program, the extensive scholarship support available to all admitted students and career opportunities in the multifaceted, global hospitality industry.
